Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE (INNA) LYSENKO 1922 - 2006 On Wednesday, February 15, 2006, Irene Lysenko (Inna Kowalska), aged 83 years, beloved wife of Olexa Lysenko, passed away peacefully at Holy Family Nursing Home. Irene was born in Ukraine and arrived in Canada in 1948. She married Olexa in 1949 and they had three children. They were members of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church in Winnipeg. Irene worked at Shriners Children's Hospital in Winnipeg as a nurse's aid caring for physically handicapped children for 18 years until her retirement in 1979, when she and Olexa moved to British Columbia. They returned back to Winnipeg in 2000, where she lived out her remaining years at Holy Family Nursing Home. Irene loved children, animals and plants. She gave endearing care to all living things. She was an active woman who enjoyed the outdoors, reading, music, sports, and playing with children. Irene leaves to cherish her memory her children, Victor and wife Patricia, Volodymyr and wife Tamali, Alexandra and husband Michel Bruderlein; seven grandchildren, Jasmine, Alissa, Krishan, Alexander, Lilina, Mykyta and Daniel; and great-grandson Shaunyata. She was predeceased by her husband Olexa, on January 4, 2006. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. in Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. A. Harkavyi officiating. Irene will rest in peace in Glen Eden Cemetery, besides Olexa. Family members will be her pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Holy Family Nursing Home for all their patience and care.
